Brainstorming for Portfolio

3. BRAINSTORM a series of general themes that you would like to incorporate into a portfolio of your own. You should have at least five ideas with descriptions.

4. Think about:
i. Common characteristics that you’ve already used throughout your art pieces (ex. Cities, environmentalism, portraits of people).

ii. Sounds that you like.

iii. Visual themes that you’re attracted to in general (ex, street art, foreign lands, contour drawings).

Themes I chose to brainstorm include, cabin fever, the wild, futuristic planet, modern art style, and a street art appeal. All of my art and media art is revolved around some outdoor theme, while still keeping it modern and a street style of art. I want to incorporate a cabin outdoor theme, but making its street art style, giving me my main theme for my portfolio "Cabin Fever". I want my introduction to be similar to Daulton's portfolio with his movie introduction leading to a cabin using some sort of animal running through the wild until they get to the cabin with my buttons to access my art from inside the cabin and my personal info in the trees and my plans for the future in the sky. Once in the cabin, I want to keep the cabin fever theme while keeping street style inside. I want to make all my art work buttons that when you click on them my art pops up from the wall of the cabin. Sounds will incorporate sounds from the wild like animal noises, the cabin door creaking noise etc. This theme will fit my art perfectly as all my art has a modern street style while it is always outdoors or in the wild.

Interactive Portfolio - Favourites

Angela Joy Flash Portfolio is my #1 favourite, she uses simple, moderate and good quality images that together create an attractive and easy to follow, while making sure the view can clearly get to her artwork using coordinating colours to make her buttons stick out and are easily seen. All of her

Daulton Flash Portfolio is my #2 favourite, he makes his much more complicated while still keeping his art and information that he is trying to present stand out of everything else. He uses high quality images and good colour combinations. One thing however in his piece I don”t like is his use of repetitive motion tween’s for his buttons, like his art one that keeps going around and around making it to repetitive.

Next, discuss what makes these two sites professional as opposed to amateur. Finally, please list what kind of inspirations these sites give you for your own work. This should give you three to four paragraphs of notes on your blog.

What makes these two sites professional as opposed to amateur is the level of complication, the modern and clean images used to make it look futuristic. They do use simple images as well but they are not used at a amateur level where the simple objects look outdated, they use their simple images and pieces in their portfolio to get your focus such as their buttons.

Inspirations these two portfolio's gave me was a lot in Daulton's, I like his introduction it is very complex and well done, I want to incorporate something similar into my piece. I like Angela's use of buttons to show her art off and the creativity of using the closet for it, it looks very sharp. When I do my "wild theme" for my portfolio I want to do something similar to hers but with a cabin theme or something like it. I also like Daulton's use of making the viewer clearly see his buttons through motion tween’s although I would definitely put a stop on mine because his are very repetitive. Overall I was able to obtain a lot of different aspects that I can use in my piece to make it look professional and sharp.

Flash Motion Project

What I like in my piece is the layout of the page and how my buttons go from the pro-riders skis to the pro-rider when you go over it. When the buttons do this if I was in the market for freestyle skis I would be able to look at this and realize oh these skis are this pro-rider model, giving a good amount of communication through my button along with the names or the rider and the skis. Overall, I am very happy with how this turned out as far as design and appealing for the viewer.

What I would change is I really wanted to add a movie clip to my buttons when you clicked on them of the pro-rider skiing on their skis. I wanted to do this to add more demention to my piece and to make it more appealing to the viewer due to my piece being more of a advertisement I wanted to keep it simple but keep the viewer interested by adding the movie clips when you clip of the skier while his sound tween is playing.

What makes this a sculpture is the 3D aspect of being able to touch the buttons and make things move shaped figures that are on top of each other creating moving 3D objects. This is naturally created by layering pictures that are smooth and flow, all aspects making this piece a sculpture.

World Flag Review

What I like about my world flag piece, is the combination of colours together, causing a eye catching and very high contrast. Also, I like how all my objects piece together to make my flag, the star with the earth in the middle with the tree of knowledge overtop with the circle all around them, held by the hands. Overall, I am very happy with the way my flag turned out, it holds all the key aspects of a flag, to represent, standout and be simple.

What I would change is I would add more variations in colours, adding a more for the eye to attract to. Although, colour is very hard to add to this flag because it can become very political, so simple colours are ideal to stick with. Other than colour, I would not change anything.

My flag represents a World Flag is through simplicity, clear, and unpolitical images. My flag has very simple objects throughout it, that gives a very clear message that is well represents by images that show no political pieces within the flag. The tree in the flag represents the tree of knowledge within our world, the star represents unity within the earth. The planet is inside the star surrounded by a circle to represent life, and the cycle of generations. The hands holding up to star represent how we hold ourselves together as a planet and maintain our unity and structure as a world together. In the end, I think my flag is a very good representative of what our World Flag would look like if we ever had one.

adbusters

Aspects of my piece that are successful is the way the girl is smirking towards the girl in the sweat shop makes clothes for nothing, showing how people is society shy towards thinking of actually where and how makes their clothes, as long as it’s the name brand they want. This gives a clear message as to really how ignorant we are towards thinking of others and what buying some of these clothing brands is supporting. Also the message along the side of my picture is a good aspect of my image, giving the view a clear, straight to the point message. Overall, the message in my image is a great aspect in my piece.

Aspects of my piece that I find unsuccessful, is the clarity and arrangement of my images. If I could redo my piece I would try and find better images that let your eye move around the piece and more attractive and clearer images. Also, I would add more photoshop effects to my piece to make the piece more appealing and a overall better image.

Aspects I would change to make my piece better would be to find better images of a bigger size and more focused to start my picture, I would also feather the lines more and make everything blend together better. Next, I would make the add more like a guess add and makes the font smaller and less oblivious. Finally, I would make my message more obvious through the people in the picture and less in the written message.

My 3D Images

What I like in my first 3D image of Dallas, is how she sticks out agaisnt the background and everything is very layed. What I like about the image of the front door decoration is the way the different layers of sticks and grass differ from one and another giving a great 3D effect. Finally, my last image of the cat, the wiskers and the fur sticks out in different levels showing a awesome 3D effect and shape of the cat.

What I dont like on the first 3D image of Dallas, is the blurryness given off in the back ground which would have to be fixed by getting a new picture or trying to play around with alot of angling effects of photoshop. On my second image of the door decoration is the door in the background has no background effect on the image. Lastly, the 3D picture of the cat I would make the hair line up better because it was very hard to get a symetrical point on the cat where the fur lined up making the image a limited blurriness.

The 3D aspect of my images I found really good, the picture of Dallas really has defined 3D layers and has a very powerful effect for the viewer to see. The door decoration image turned out very well, the 3D aspect of layers is shown very well through the layers of the grass and sticks, and viewers can see the definition of the sticks and there shapes. My 3D image of the cat worked great, viewers can clearly see the fur sticking out and the cats fascal shape. Overall, I am very happy with my pieces, and the 3D effects they all give off with layers, shapes, and definition of elements in the images.
